Hamilton makes first Mercedes factory visit
Sunday 16th December 2012, 12:23 by Ryan Wood
Lewis Hamilton has visited the Mercedes factory in Brackley for the first time since he signed a £60 million contract with the Anglo-German outfit for 2013 and beyond.
Whilst his McLaren contract doesn't expire until December 31st, the two rivals came to an agreement allowing the 2008 champion to begin working with his new team in advance.
The Sun newspaper reports the 27-year-old met his engineers earlier in the week before taking a spin in their simulator. He was also measured up for his new overalls and completed his seat fitting.
Soon to be ex-motorsport boss Norbert Haug confirmed Mercedes and McLaren had struck a deal, freeing Hamilton of the contractual restrictions.
"Lewis has already been in the factory to see the team and fulfil some duties after we found an agreement about that with McLaren," he said.
No further visits are planned until January.
Outgoing Marussia driver Charles Pic also made his first visit to his soon-to-be team, Caterham, last week.
