Heikki Kovalainen has admitted he hasn't engaged in "serious talks" with anyone but Caterham for 2013 and beyond amid speculation he could be off to Sauber or Ferrari.
The Finn is hopeful of retaining his seat and told Autosport that is close to agreeing terms and expects to announce something shortly.
"Hopefully before the end of the season [it will be agreed]," he said when probed on his future. "Hopefully something this month.
"At the moment, I'm talking to Caterham and seeing what we can come up with. I can still see a lot of potential here and the team is doing the right things to move forward.
"If there is anything else available, you have to look at it, but I haven't had serious talks with anyone else."
Kovalainen and team owner Tony Fernandes had a minor falling out after the Malaysian businessman was unhappy with the 30-year-old's desire to return to a top team, but that's now in the past he confirmed.
"We haven't had issues with the money, it has been other issues," he added. "Whatever issues there have been with the team and with my management, hopefully in Singapore we put them all behind us."
